Salted Egg Custard Mooncake 咸蛋奶黄月饼
Relatively uncommon in Malaysia, this mooncake has an egg custard filling instead of the usual red bean or white lotus paste. It’s an oven-baked buttery mooncake with elevated flavours, a wonderful blend of sweet and salty, and lets you experience two different, yet equally pleasant textures when consumed at room temperature or warm!
At room temperature, the salted egg custard is crunchier and frees a gentler savoury flavour. And when microwaved, the taste of salted egg is stronger, and the pastry gives you a melt-in-the-mouth softness. It's best however your tastebuds like it, so following your preference is the way to go!
